Midthunder was raised in Shiprock, New Mexico. She is a member of the Assiniboine tribe of Fort Peck. Her mother was a casting lass and she attended the Academy for Technology and the Classics in Santa Fe. She was born on the Navajo Nation, in Shiprock. Amber has been identified as Native American on her father's family, and they are both enrolled members of the Fort Peck Sioux Tribe. Amber's mother had been adopted. Amber has unknown different heritage. Prey stars a majority of Native American actors, such as Dakota Beavers (who is Blackfeet as well as Comanche) and Jhane Meiers, who has been advising the show since the beginning of time.
