Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress, who is employed in television, film and the theatre. The most famous of her roles is Teri Joe the fiery lawyer from the Showtime program Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe is her new name after she married. Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland, she was always interested in acting. In a Maryland high school event at the beginning of her training, she was awarded the title for best actress. She earned her acting degree at New York University after working for 'The Washington Ballet Company' as well as performing in the theatre. Contractor, who was born and raised by his parents in Nigeria and Mumbai when he was seven, had traveled around all over the world and had a taste of many cultures as a child. From the age of seven to nine, the young lady went to boarding school in London. Her family then relocated to Toronto which she stayed in through the majority of her childhood. Then, in Toronto, Contractor excelled in academics and became an classical ballerina. She attended an Etobicoke School of the Arts, a specialized public arts high school in which she did not only dance but also studied theatre. Contractor decided to take acting more seriously at the age of 16 following almost 10 year of dance. After she had completed high school, she received a full Scholarship to University of Toronto. At the University of Toronto she completed an MA in Theatre, and also double majored with Psychology and Sociology. Contractor auditioned at the prestigious Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, Canada, for Pericles. After an entire year of auditions, she was offered the leading role. The show she played in 92 performances received acclaim from Canadian reviewers. Contractor accepted the offer to attend Stratford's Conservatory program. There are only eight males as well as four females get accepted for the 20-week course of classical theater. Contractor got a confirmed spot for the following season. She was also offered the role of Hermia.
